SCAI Announces Recipients of 2025 Early Career Research Grants | SCAI

WASHINGTON—The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) today announced the recipients of the 2025 Early Career Research Grants (ECRGs), an initiative designed to support the next generation of academic interventional cardiologists. Now in its fourth year, the program provides critical early-stage funding to junior investigators pursuing high-impact research in coronary, peripheral, and structural heart disease.

The 2025 recipients will be formally recognized during a convocation ceremony at SCAI Scientific Sessions 2025, held May 1–3 in Washington, DC. Each recipient will receive one year of research support and present their findings at SCAI Scientific Sessions 2026.

“These grants are an investment in the future of interventional cardiology,” said Ehtisham Mahmud, MD, MSCAI, Chair of the SCAI Scientific Oversight Committee and Past President of SCAI. “They support not only important scientific questions, but the professional growth of emerging physician-scientists. With industry support and a rigorous review process, we’re proud to provide a platform for promising researchers to launch projects that will ultimately improve care for patients worldwide.”

“Early-career researchers face an uphill climb when it comes to securing funding,” said SCAI President James B. Hermiller, MD, MSCAI. “This program is about giving them a boost when they need it most—supporting ideas that are innovative, grounded in clinical relevance, and capable of shaping the future of our field.”

The SCAI Early Career Research Grant program is open to members within ten years of completing an interventional cardiology fellowship. All proposals undergo blinded review by the SCAI Scientific Oversight Committee, which evaluates applications based on significance, innovation, feasibility, and alignment with current clinical priorities.

Unrestricted educational grants from Abbott, Edwards Lifesciences, Medtronic, and Shockwave Medical support these research awards. No in-kind commercial support was received.

Recipients will present the results of their research at a dedicated session during SCAI Scientific Sessions 2026, and are encouraged to submit their findings for publication in JSCAI.

The next ECRG application cycle will open in November 2025.
