In August 2025, the state of Illinois enacted IL SB1418 into law. IL SB1418 mandates screening for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) for at-risk individuals every 12 months. 

SCAI supports the screening for PAD, which impacts an estimated 20 million Americans. Mandating screening for at-risk populations helps to detect the disease early and to reduce the number of amputations and deaths from the disease. 

SCAI hopes that other states and the federal government will follow Illinois on this and begin requiring health insurance plans to do preventive screening for PAD.
