A SCAI-led Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) coalition, in a letter, thanked the Chair and Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee for including critical report language. The Committee Report language would have the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) coordinate efforts to educate patients about PAD. The Senate is expected to act on similar language in the near future.

U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515Dear Chairman Cole and Ranking Member DeLauro:
On behalf of PAD Work Group, we write to thank you for including important report language on peripheral artery disease (PAD) education, screening, and amputation prevention in the FY 2027 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations report.
With more than 21 million Americans affected by PAD and far too many experiencing preventable amputations each year, the Committee’s emphasis on improved education, early detection, and coordinated federal engagement is both timely and impactful. The directives to CDC, CMS, and other agencies to advance PAD awareness and explore appropriate screening for high-risk populations represent meaningful steps toward improving patient outcomes and reducing avoidable harm.
We appreciate your leadership on this issue and look forward to working with you to support implementation of these provisions.
Sincerely,
