SCAI, in a joint effort with other societies, successfully petitioned the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to review and amend its National Correct Coding Initiative NCCI policy regarding several Medically Unlikely Edits (MUE) for the new LER codes. 

NCCI had issued an edit of 1 for several of the add-on codes, which prevented them from being billed bilaterally.  

CMS agreed to make updates to the MUEs retroactive to April 1, 2026. However, the changes will not be published until October 1, 2026, NCCI edit update.
