SCAI successfully petitioned the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to review and amend its National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) policy regarding several important angiography codes. NCCI had issued an edit of 0, or "not allowed" to be billed together between CPT® codes 93566 and 75605 and 93568 and 75605.
93566 Injection procedure during cardiac catheterization, including imaging supervision, interpretation, and report; for selective right ventricular or right atrial angiography
93568 Injection procedure during cardiac catheterization, including imaging supervision, interpretation, and report; for nonselective pulmonary arterial angiography
75605 Aortography, thoracic, by serialography, radiological supervision and interpretation
SCAI sent an appeal requesting that the edits be removed, citing CPT® language that allows for these codes to be billed together in certain circumstances. CMS agreed to delete the edits. This change will be made with the July 1, 2025, NCCI edit update.
