SCAI Joins in Support of New Prior Authorization Reform Bill | SCAI

In collaboration with the other members of the Regulatory Relief Coalition (RRC), SCAI has written to Senators Green, Murphy, and Schrier, thanking them for their leadership on Reducing Medically Unnecessary Delays in Care Act (H.R. 2433) and their commitment to ensuring Medicare Advantage (MA) policies are not a barrier to timely and equitable access to care for patients.

The letter communicates RRC members' agreement that "only qualified medical personnel — ideally providers of the same medical specialty or subspecialty as the prescribing/ordering physicians — should make these decisions. Furthermore, we agree that prior authorization decisions should reflect evidence based guidelines consistent with national medical specialty society guidelines where available and applicable" and their commitment to working to protect patients from unnecessary delays.
