Angiography Versus Physiology-Guided PCI in Patients Undergoing TAVI: The Functional Assessment in TAVI (FAITAVI) Trial

The decision to perform routine percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) prior to transaortic valve replacement (TAVR) has been controversial, with little data driving the conversation. The FAITAVI trials looks to answer the question of angiography-guided PCI versus physiologic assessment-guided PCI in patients who will undergo the TAVR procedure. 

Meta-Analysis of Individual Patient Data From the PROTECTED TAVR and BHF PROTECT-TAVI Studies

The use of cerebral embolic protection (CES) with Sentinel was evaluated using two randomized controlled trials, PROTECTED TAVR and BHF PROTECT TAVI trials. This meta-analysis combined data from both trials to evaluate the use of Sentinel in TAVR and detect improvement in the event rate of stroke.

Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) has long been the standard of care for the management of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). But there is an increasing awareness of the need to find a more patient-centered approach that strikes a balance between the ischaemic protection DAPT offers and the risk of bleeding complications. The 4D-ACS trial compared outcomes of a 1-month DAPT with aspirin 100 mg and prasugrel 10 mg  followed by prasugrel 5 mg monotherapy (1M-DAPT) regimen versus a 12-month DAPT protocol with aspirin and prasugrel 5 mg (12M-DAPT).
