Program Overview

The Interventional Cardiology Fellows in Training meeting provides a comprehensive educational experience designed to equip fellows with advanced skills and knowledge essential to their careers.

Through didactic sessions, hands-on workshops, and case-based discussions, attendees will explore cutting-edge topics such as complex PCI techniques, intravascular imaging, large-bore access, and the management of challenging lesions, including left main and CTO cases.

Fellows will gain proficiency in utilizing tools like IVUS and OCT, understanding drug-coated balloons, and navigating clinical dilemmas in PCI.

This course aims to enhance procedural expertise and decision-making abilities, preparing fellows to tackle diverse clinical scenarios effectively.

Learning Objectives

• Master techniques for complex PCI, including lesion assessment and procedural planning.
• Utilize intravascular imaging (IVUS, OCT) and hemodynamic coronary assessments (FFR, iFR, AngioFFR, FFR CT) to optimize PCI outcomes.
• Implement strategies for managing calcified lesions using atherectomy and intravascular lithotripsy techniques.
• Understand the application of drug-coated balloons and brachytherapy for managing in-stent restenosis
• Demonstrate proficiency in large bore access techniques for high-risk PCI cases.
• Identify and manage cardiogenic shock in the catheterization laboratory.
• Evaluate and manage complications related to PCI procedures.
• Acquire knowledge related to non-clinical aspects of a career in interventional cardiology including billing codes, contract negotiations and managing loss.
• Learn the basic procedures required to address peripheral vascular and structural heart interventions needed to be a successful coronary interventionalist.

Eligibility

If you are currently in an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) interventional cardiology fellowship program in the US or Canada and have not previously attended this SCAI Fellows Course, you are eligible for the SCAI Fellows Interventional Cardiology Course.

Scholarship Details

All accepted participants will receive:

• Complimentary registration for the SCAI Fellows Interventional Cardiology Course
• Reimbursed hotel accommodations at the Hyatt Regency Miami for four nights (December 9–13)
• Reimbursed ground transportation up to $250 (home to airport, airport to hotel, and vice versa only) for attendees coming from the US or Canada.
• For attendees coming from the US or Canada, reimbursed coach airfare to and from Miami up to $750 (restrictions apply; the full travel policy will be provided upon acceptance)

Full participation is required for 100 percent reimbursement. All attendees must:

• Arrive at the hotel before the first session beginning at 6:45 PM on Wednesday, December 9.
• Make flight arrangements that depart after the final session ending at 12:30 PM on Sunday, December 13.
• Participate in all sessions, including the exhibit hall tour and satellite meal functions.

Required Documentation

• A signed letter from your program director stating the dates of your fellowship
• A copy of your curriculum vitae (CV)

Your application will be reviewed, and you will be notified within two weeks of the status of your application.

International Attendees

SCAI is excited to welcome international fellows to the SCAI 2026 Fellows Courses. We set aside a specific number of scholarships for our Interventional Course and Congenital Heart Disease Course for attendees outside of the US and Canada. These scholarships are distributed among SCAI’s international societal partners, who in turn, select the fellows. Please contact your local society for details.

International fellows may apply for the congenital course, however, preference is given to those training in the US. International fellows will not be accepted for the Advanced Courses. If you have additional questions, please contact Liz Burke.
