Advanced Structural Heart Disease Interventional Cardiology Course

December 13–15, 2024

Dr. Marvin Eng, MD, FSCAI

Join Me in Miami

The 2024 Advanced Structural Heart Disease Interventional Cardiology Course will provide world-class hands-on training in fundamental and advanced structural heart procedures.

This year, we are focusing more on tricuspid valve imaging and procedures and atrioventricular valve therapies, and renowned faculty will provide simulator and benchtop training instruction, making this course a valuable training experience.

To remain abreast of the most advanced technologies and procedures, 4D-intracardiac echocardiography and implementation in structural procedures will be just one of the highlights of the updated curriculum.

But, while introductions to new procedures are important, this fellows' course remains rooted in strengthening fundamentals for budding structural proceduralists.

I look forward to meeting you.

Program Overview

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the rapidly advancing field of structural heart interventions.

Complete with both didactic and hands-on training, simulators will be available for intracardiac echocardiography, transseptal puncture, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, transcatheter mitral valve replacement, and mitral and tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair. Taught by world-class faculty, it will provide the cornerstones of knowledge and skills you need to become a successful structural interventionalist.

On this course you will:

  • Master a comprehensive understanding of intracardiac ultrasound with the ability to manipulate the intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) catheter to achieve standard views and identify normal and abnormal intracardiac anatomy.
  • Analyze standard views, identify normal and abnormal intracardiac anatomy, discuss fusion imaging, and describe necessary imaging of atrial septal structures and different morpho-spatial pathologic variants.
  • Learn how to describe treatment modalities for patent foramen ovale closure, atrial septal defect closure, left atrial appendage occlusion, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, transcatheter mitral valve repair, and valve-in-valve therapy.
  • Review the interventional equipment and technical skills/steps required while performing case-based simulation in a multitude of scenarios.
  • Discuss the interventional skills for percutaneous transseptal puncture using appropriate transseptal sheaths, wires, needles, and other access devices such as radiofrequency ablation.
  • Review the steps for post-processing computerized tomography (CT) analysis for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and discuss novel techniques associated with TAVR: valve fracturing; bioprosthetic or native aortic scallop intentional laceration to prevent iatrogenic coronary artery obstruction (BASILICA); and coronary protection.
  • Learn strategies for practice and professional development.
