Dr. Reilly, MD, FSCAI, is an associate professor of medicine at Stony Brook University, chief of cardiology at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, and director of East End cardiology. Dr. Reilly is a leading interventional cardiologist, highly respected for his acumen and technical proficiency, with particular expertise in peripheral interventions. Among his research interests are renal denervation with radiofrequency and ultrasound-based systems.
He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame and earned his medical degree at Columbia University. He completed his internal medicine training at NYU Medical Center and was selected as chief resident for this program. He completed his cardiology fellowship at NYU and graduated from his interventional cardiology fellowship at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California.
After training, Dr. Reilly joined Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, where he was the vice chair of clinical affairs and cardiology. He also served as program director for the cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowship programs. Dr. Reilly has won multiple awards, including Teacher of the Year, Mentor of the Year, and the Citizenship Award.
SCAI has been J.P. Reilly’s professional home since completion of his training, serving on multiple committees, including co-chairing the training standards and program directors committee and the ischemic council. Dr. Reilly also chaired the public relations committee and led SCAI’s national public health awareness ‘Unbroken Hearts’ campaign, which won the 2016 North American Gold Sabre Award. Dr. Reilly is a former editor-in-chief of SecondsCount.org, a board trustee, and currently serves on the governance committee.
Dr. Reilly was selected for both the ACC’s emerging faculty course and, recently, the advanced educator course. He has contributed to CATHSAP, served on multiple ACC committees, and is currently chair of the curriculum design committee. Dr. Reilly is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed book chapters to several textbooks focusing on topics such as drug-eluting stents, peripheral disease, and renal artery disease. Dr. Reilly has been an associate editor for CCI and on the editorial board for CRM.
