Dr. Issam D. Moussa is Director, Carle Heart & Vascular Institute and a Tenured Professor of Medicine at Carle Illinois College of Medicine, University of Illinois, Champaign.
Dr. Moussa has been a prolific clinical investigator, co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 3 books, and participated in over 200 clinical trials in coronary, peripheral, and structural interventions.
Over the last 2 decades, Dr. Moussa served in numerous leadership positions in SCAI, the American College of Cardiology, and the American Heart Association. His leadership roles in SCAI included: Chair, Public Relations Committee; Chair, Publication Committee, and member of the Board of Trustees. He represented SCAI on the writing committees for the PCI Guidelines, PCI Competency Standards, and Left Atrial Appendage Closure consensus documents. During his tenure as Chair of the SCAI Publication Committee, Dr. Moussa led the efforts to publish the SCAI Definition of Post-Revascularization MI, which has been widely adopted in coronary revascularization clinical trials. Dr. Moussa also served as Chair of the Steering Committee of the NCDR CathPCI Registry for 3 consecutive terms and was awarded the NCDR Leadership Award.
Dr. Moussa completed his medical degree at Damascus University, Syria. He completed his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, General Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington DC; the University of California, Irvine Medical Center; and Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute in New York City.
