Dr. Venugopal B. Bhattad, MD, FSCAI, is an interventional cardiologist and advanced heart failure specialist at the Harry S. Truman VA Medical Center and adjunct assistant professor of medicine and interventional cardiology teaching faculty at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. He is quadruple board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, and advanced heart failure/transplant cardiology. He also passed National Board of Echocardiography, and is a Diplomate of Nuclear Cardiology, and Cardiac CT.
He completed his fellowship training in interventional cardiology and advanced heart failure/transplant cardiology and serves as a high-volume coronary operator. His clinical work includes CHIP and complex PCI, left main and multivessel disease, calcium modification, and revascularization in advanced LV dysfunction, along with use of mechanical circulatory support, management of cardiogenic shock, and device-based therapies for advanced heart failure treatment. He performs pacemaker and cardiac device implantation.
His practice includes evaluation and management of pulmonary hypertension and the care of patients before and after heart transplantation.
As director of the advanced heart failure program, he leads programs in hemodynamic-guided care, biomarker-based management, and heart failure clinic development, contributing to reduced readmissions and program recognition in cardiac amyloidosis care.
He serves as principal investigator and co-principal investigator for clinical trials and has published research as first and senior author. He participates in peer review for cardiovascular journals and is involved in device development, industry collaboration, and medical education. He is dedicated to medical education and research, with devotion to mentoring medical students, residents, cardiology, and interventional cardiology fellows.
In recognition of his professionalism and dedication to patient care, he received the I-CARE Award for Integrity from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, honoring his service to U.S. veterans and commitment to the highest moral and ethical standards for patient care.
