The Bipartisan Resolution Elevates Awareness About Cardiovascular Disease and Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Testing

WASHINGTON, DC—The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI), the primary nonprofit medical society dedicated to representing invasive and interventional cardiology, applauded the United States Senate for unanimously agreeing to S.Res. 464, designating September 2025 as “National Cholesterol Education Month” and September 30, 2025, as “LDL-C Awareness Day.” The resolution underscores the urgent need for public awareness, screening, and treatment for Americans to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, including peripheral artery disease (PAD), and other cardiovascular conditions that can lead to heart attack, stroke, and limb loss.

“The Senate’s recognition of September as National Cholesterol Education Month, which also marks Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month, is an important first step in elevating awareness of cardiac and vascular health and treatment, especially considering cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for men and for women in the United States,” said SCAI President Srihari S. Naidu, MD, MSCAI. “These efforts remind us that early detection and treatment of both high cholesterol and PAD are critical to preventing deadly cardiovascular events and amputations and saving lives."

Building on this momentum from the Senate, SCAI will continue working with bipartisan lawmakers to expand access to screenings, education, and treatment, so every American can receive the necessary care required to prevent heart and vascular disease. We thank the Senate members for their bipartisan leadership, specifically Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS), a co-sponsor of this resolution and champion of the Improving Seniors’ Access to Timely Care Act, for his leadership in advancing policies that streamline and improve individual access to care. Together, these efforts aim to reduce the effects of cardiovascular and vascular disease on individuals and heavily impacted communities across the nation.
