Jas Sara completed his internal medicine residency, cardiology fellowship, and PhD in biomedical sciences at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He then completed his fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, MN. He is now on staff as an interventional cardiologist at the Minneapolis VA. He was awarded the Outstanding Research Achievement Award for his residency and again for his fellowship, and was awarded the Eisenberg Scholarship during his fellowship in interventional cardiology. ,
His research interests center around coronary physiology, microvascular dysfunction, and endothelial dysfunction; measures of, and therapies targeting, the effects of psychosocial stressors and physical inactivity on vascular health and cardiovascular risk; and voice analysis technology combined with artificial intelligence to develop biomarkers for the remote detection of cardiovascular diseases. He has published more than 90 peer-reviewed manuscripts, with more than 4,000 citations, including a paper ranked among the JACC Editor-in-Chief's Top Picks.
He has multiple industry-sponsored and internal grants, leads collaborations with researchers across the United States and around the world, mentors medical students and residents, and is a member of the Bridge2AI International Consortium. He is currently leading a multicenter registry in the United States assessing the efficacy of angiography-derived physiology. His research has been the subject of press briefings at ACC and has led to several media interviews with various media outlets, including Forbes magazine, the Wall Street Journal, and The Telegraph of London.
