Dean J. Kereiakes, MD, FSCAI, is chairman of The Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute, medical director of The Christ Hospital Research Institute, professor of medicine at the University of Cincinnati, and clinical professor of medicine at the Ohio State University.
Dr. Kereiakes received his medical degree and was valedictorian of his graduating class at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. Postgraduate training included the University of California, San Francisco, and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. His cardiology fellowship was at the University of California, San Francisco, and coronary angioplasty training was at the San Francisco Heart Institute (Drs Richard Myler and Simon Stertzer) and the Sequoia Hospital (Dr John Simpson).
Dr. Kereiakes has published over 1,200 peer-reviewed medical journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters. He has served on the editorial boards of every major cardiovascular journal in the US. He was previously section editor of Circulation, and is currently deputy editor of the Journal for the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (JSCAI). He has served as national/international principal investigator on 28 pivotal trials for US FDA approval of novel cardiovascular devices, and he has performed more than 30,000 catheterization laboratory procedures.
He was the founder and original medical director of The Carl & Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education at The Christ Hospital, one of the top clinical research sites in the United States.
Dr. Kereiakes was honored with "Outstanding Alumnus" (2008), Honorary Doctorate of Sciences (2014), and the William Howard Taft Medal for Achievement (2024) by the University of Cincinnati. He received the American Heart Association Samuel Kaplan Visionary Award (2000) and the Cincinnati Business Courier Innovator Award (1998 and 2025). He received the Scottsdale Interventional Forum (SIF) Lifetime Achievement Award (2024). His hobbies outside of medicine include traveling and wine collecting.
