Bhavanadhar Penta, MD, FSCAI | SCAI

Bhavanadhar Penta, MD, FSCAI, is a highly accomplished interventional cardiologist and a rising leader in the field of structural heart disease. He currently serves as an assistant professor of medicine and cardiology, and the associate director of the structural heart disease program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. In this capacity, Dr. Penta co-leads the clinical, operational, and strategic advancement of a premier structural heart program and directs critical quality initiatives, including the NCDR-PCI and TVT Registry Central Adjudication Committees.

Dr. Penta’s clinical foundation is uniquely robust, spanning high-volume centers in both India and the United States. Prior to completing advanced fellowships in complex and high-risk interventional procedures (CHIP) and structural heart disease intervention at Mount Sinai, he held significant leadership roles internationally. Notably, as chief of cardiology and director of the cath lab at Apollo Hospital in Karimnagar (India), he expanded access to interventional services in underserved regions and received government recognition for performing the state's highest volume of percutaneous coronary interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

An active clinical investigator, Dr. Penta has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals, including JACC and Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions. His research critically addresses emerging structural therapies, including first-in-human series for transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR) and complex redo-TAVR strategies. He frequently presents clinical research and challenging cases at major scientific sessions, including CRT, TCT, and ACC.

Beyond his clinical and academic endeavors, Dr. Penta is a dedicated educator who has mentored numerous trainees globally and actively shapes cardiovascular policy through his service on the Advocacy and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committees of the ACC's New York State Chapter.
