SCAI Women in Innovations is thrilled to endorse a patient screening effort developed by Abbott Vascular's Women's Heart Health Initiative, designed to improve the care provided to all female patients. As you know, many women see their gynecologist as their primary care physician, not all of whom are trained to recognize cardiovascular disease symptoms in women. Abbott's mission through this project is to educate the OBGYN community and screen OBGYN patients for cardiovascular disease symptoms in an effort to increase the chances of early detection of heart disease.
Jerri Anne Johnson, Director of Abbott Vascular's Women's Heart Health Initiative, is looking for additional US-based sites to help pilot this program. Should your site have an interest in working together with your OBGYN department to advance this cause, Abbott can provide you with the screening tool and the IRB forms necessary to get started. As an added benefit, Abbott has also generously offered to sponsor educational forums at your site, and has prepared slide decks for such forums, so that you can easily educate your clinical teams appropriately.
SCAI Women in Innovations urges you and your team to take an active role in this project. Results will be utilized in validating the screening tool as a national standard, and the program has the potential to trail blaze a new definition of optimal care for female patients.
