    An endovascular procedure is one that is performed inside the blood vessels with a small, flexible tube called a catheter. It is performed by a doctor with special endovascular training. Among the medical specialists who may treat peripheral artery disease (PAD) are interventional cardiologists, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists and vascular medicine specialists.

    If your leg arteries become clogged and narrowed so that blood flow cannot supply enough oxygen to your leg muscles, your physician may recommend an endovascular or surgical procedure. Both treatments aim to restore blood flow to the muscles. When blood flow is restored, leg pain – and the risk of losing a leg or foot due to severe narrowing of the vessels – may be reduced.
