    Self Evaluation of Medical Knowledge and Practice Performance

    Verification of Credentials

    Procedural Requirement for Interventional Cardiologists: In order to complete this requirement you may submit 1 of the following:

    1. "Form Attesting Interventional Cardiology Practice" verifying your performance as primary operator, co-operator or supervisor of 150 PCI cases in the two years prior to expiration of your certificate. You will receive the attestation form at the beginning of the year your certification expires.
    2. If you are unable to meet the requirement above, you may provide a procedural log of 25 consecutive cases, including outcomes, in which you have served as primary operator.

    Self-Evaluation (2 categories)

    You must complete 100 points of ABIM self-evaluation in two categories:

    • at least 20 points in Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge and
    • 20 points in Self-Evaluation of Practice Performance.

    The remaining 60 points can be in any combination of the two categories.

    I. Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge

       A. ABIM Options

    • Annual Update Modules in Interventional Cardiology and Cardiovascular Disease --- (10 points each).
    • Interventional Cardiology Simulations --- (20 points)
    • Care for the Underserved Module --- (10 points)

       B. Other Options 

    • Point-of-Care Clinical Question Module --- (20 points)
    • CathSAP 3 --- (40 points - must be ordered through ACC) Order CathSAP 

    II. Self-Evaluation of Practice Performance

    • Self-Directed Practice Improvement Module (PIM) using ACC-NCDR measures --- (20 points). Examples of self-directed PIM coming soon!
    • Preventive Cardiology Practice Improvement Module (PIM) --- (40 points)
    • Hypertension PIM --- (40 points)
    • Communication - Subspecialties PIM --- (20 points)
    • Communication with Referring Physicians --- (20 points)
    • Hospital-Based Patient Care PIM --- (20 points)

    Board Examination

    You can take the ABIM Interventional Cardiology MOC Exam beginning in your sixth year of certification and before or after you complete all of the self-evaluation modules. Check www.abim.org for the most current exam schedule.
