    We look forward to seeing you at the House of Representatives today, Tuesday, March 2, from noon until 3 p.m. for “The Path to Health Care Equity: Identifying and Solving Racial, Ethnic, and Gender Disparities in Health Care in the New Century.

    The program, hosted by SCAI and cosponsored with the Association of Black Cardiologists, Mended Hearts, and WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease, will be held in Rooms B339 and B340 of the House of Representatives Rayburn Building. The Rayburn Building is located at South Capitol Street and Independence Avenue. Please use the Independence Avenue Entrance, and proceed through the security line. Capitol Police or SCAI staff will direct you to rooms B339 and B340.

    HOW DO THESE DISPARITIES, PARTICULARLY IN CARDIOVASCULAR CARE, AFFECT PATIENTS?

    • Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the U.S.
    • Women under the age of 50 are twice as likely to die from a heart attack as men in their same age group.
    • African American women ages 55-64 are twice as likely as white women to have a heart attack and 35 percent more likely to suffer from heart disease.
    • In 2006, nearly 47 percent of African American women, and nearly 45 percent of African American males had CVD.
