Educational Objectives
The advance curriculum in acute stroke intervention and carotid stenting will provide physicians the opportunity to build on their current knowledge of carotid stenting and expand their knowledge of neuro rescue interventions.
The topics of the course are designed to:
- Understand advanced techniques for acute stroke intervention and for carotid stent procedures;
- Understand noninvasive diagnostic modalities used in acute stroke assessment;
- Gain experience utilizing simulation in intracranial stenting and intracranial clot retrieval techniques;
- Recognize and identify advanced and complex neuroanatomy views;
- Identify and compare the most critical and advanced carotid trials and describe their findings;
- Describe the optimum management of complications that can occur during carotid stenting, including neuro-rescue techniques;
- Illustrate the most recent validated patient selection criteria;
- Choose appropriate carotid diagnostic strategies and techniques applicable to complex or unique situations;
- Anticipate the short and long-term outcome for challenging cases and describe best strategies for managing those cases;
- Understand and describe the most current validated indications for carotid stenting;
