Reminder: Joint Commission Requirement for On-going Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) Now In Effect

SCAI members are reminded that The Joint Commission Requirement for On-going Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) is now in effect. CMS to Issue Penalties for Nonparticipation in eRx Program in First Half of 2011

SCAI recently submitted comments to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), urging it to intervene and require the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to revise its policy using e-prescribing activity during the first six months of 2011 as the basis for imposing e-prescribing penalties in 2012 (entire 2011 calendar year for 2013). SCAI warns the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that the practice of medicine should be enhanced, not impeded by the 510(k) reform initiative. Efforts to reform access to safe, effective and innovative products should not burden the doctor-patient relationship, slow access to the latest medical technologies, or limit the inclusion of meaningful scientific expertise in the 510(k) process.
