SCAI Seeks Revision to HTAP Draft Evidence Report

    November 19, 2015

This week, SCAI submitted comments on the Health Technology Assessment Program’s (HTAP) draft evidence report surrounding coronary stents in cardiovascular patients in Washington State. Washington State is a trendsetter nationwide.

Upon review of the draft document, SCAI feels that the report adds little to established guidelines and appropriate use criteria that already exist and are followed by interventional cardiologists. SCAI noted that the assessment also failed to include two recently updated guideline documents. SCAI also noted that the volume of elective angioplasties is declining and that more of these patients are getting guideline recommended therapy before their procedures. There is data showing these changes both nationally and in Washington State.

Coverage recommendations will be discussed at a January 15, 2016 meeting and SCAI will be there to testify for the benefits of our patients.
