Prior Notification Program for United Healthcare Moves Forward
July 02, 2010
Despite strong opposition by SCAI, United HealthCare’s (UHC) “Prior Notification” requirement for elective coronary angiograms went into effect on July 1, 2010. Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, and Wisconsin will be the first states affected with the program being rolled out to most other states on September 1, 2010. Click here for more details.
While ultimately deciding to implement the Prior Notification requirement, leaders from UHC did modify their criteria for acceptable diagnostic catheterization based upon SCAI input. Additionally, UHC has expressed a willingness to consider further adjustments in their criteria should problems and/or disagreements arise. If you should have any concerns or suggestions are encouraged to contact SCAI Senior Director for Advocacy and Guidelines Wayne Powell at email@example.com.
For those members who may be considering no longer participating as a United HealthCare provider, SCAI advises consulting your contract and possibly your attorney.
