President's Message: Department of Justice Investigation of Interventional Procedures
August 7, 2012
Last night, the New York Times released a story about a Department of Justice investigation of interventional procedures performed at HCA hospitals in Florida, and several news stories have followed. SCAI is aware of this issue, has spoken with reporters at the Wall Street Journal, and is reaching out to others who are working on this story as it unfolds.
This event illustrates the importance of quality improvement for every SCAI member and the essential need to have an unrelenting commitment to this responsibility as physicians. To this end, SCAI tools, including our Quality Improvement Toolkit (QIT), appropriate use criteria, ACE accreditation program, clinical guidelines, and continued peer-reviewed clinical research, are in place with the goal of improving cardiovascular patient care. For more than 30 years, SCAI has focused on evidence-based medicine to continuously improve the care for interventional patients and this remains our primary focus today.
I invite you to share your thoughts as this story evolves. Please send your comments to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
